Speech-Language Pathologist
Michelle Bourque, M.Sc., SLP-Reg, S-LP(C)
Originally from Fredericton, NB, Michelle holds an M.Sc. degree in Speech-Language Pathology (S-LP) from McGill University in Montréal, QC. Her passion for neuroscience, neurolinguistics, and aphasiology were sparked during her linguistics undergraduate degree at the University of New Brunswick, setting her on her path as a Speech-Language Pathologist. She has devoted her career to helping adults with aphasia and acquired brain injury ever since, and has learned much from her clients and her work on interdisciplinary teams over the years.
Michelle comes to Nova Scotia with over 25 years' experience working with adults with stroke and traumatic brain injury at a McGill-affiliated rehabilitation centre in Montreal, where her main area of focus was the rehabilitation of aphasia, motor speech, and cognitive-communication disorders -- all within a client-focused, life-participation framework. Throughout her career, she has also participated in clinical research, academic teaching and SLP student supervision at McGill. She has received awards of excellence in these areas, and has presented at several regional and international conferences.
Michelle is a full certified member of Speech & Audiology Canada (SAC), a full licensed member of the Nova Scotia College of Audiologists & Speech-Language Pathologists (NSCASLP), and an international affiliate member of the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA).
